Al Eleve

The house is built within a wonderful setting, and was thoughtfully designed for our guests’ rest and relaxation. The property is surrounded by lush gardens and a stunning bamboo forest that infuse the air with a feeling of tranquility. Judging by these surroundings it is easy to understand why its name can be interpreted as “Pupil in the House of God” (From “Al”, the Arabic word Ala for “God”, and “Elève” which is French for pupil).

This oasis of peace and tranquility includes two houses that fit a total of  10 people, a temperature-regulated infinity pool, and  two outdoor Jacuzzis, all overlooking the bamboo forest. The bamboo forest itself is lovingly looked after, as it not only provides us with pure water and the air we breathe, but is also home to countless birds, armadillos, other small mammals, and insects. It is possible to walk inside it and take in its marvelous freshness. Both houses are connected with a stone walkway that weaves around the colorful gardens and exuberant vegetation, where it is possible to catch a glimpse of many species of birds that call this place home.

The main house was built in a contemporary style, with high ceilings lined with bamboo and mangrove wood. Its bedrooms open up to the house exterior, which include a terrace and hammocks to enjoy the view. They also offer direct access to the pool, jacuzzi, and ample decks for sunbathing. There are three bedrooms, The master bedroom with two double beds (1,20mt width each) close together and a private bathroom. Second room  with a king-sized bed, and the other with a queen-sized bed and a twin sized bed, these two bedrooms share one and a half bathrooms, all with hot water. The interior of the house is completed with a living room, full kitchen, covered exterior living room, and outdoor dining area with a full view of the house’s surroundings.

A few meters away from the main house is the “Maloka”, which is an indigenous term for “house” or “cabin”. It is a 40 m2 structure built entirely from bamboo wood. The style of construction is quite unique, at an elevation from the ground and designed in a pentagonal shape with inclined walls. It provides an entirely different feel without sacrificing comfort, allowing for quiet nights and awakenings filled with natural sounds.

The Maloka is closest to the bamboo forest and is surrounded by gardens . It has been designed to provide an intimate setting. It has a private bathroom overlooking the bamboo forest, one king-sized bed, and a private private terrace with a hammock. A small bar refrigerator is provided. A private Jacuzzi near by. By guest request an additional Twin size bed can be included.

A few meters away from the main house is the owner’s art studio The owner’s love of art motivated her to build this space, which also has a running gallery with original works for sale. Her artwork can also be seen adorning the house’s interior walls, together with pieces created by her daughter who is also an artist.

Regardless of the activities preferred by our visitors or the time of year for the trip, in the opinion of the owners the main attraction of this gorgeous property is wanting to stay. Time slows down in this space of peace and tranquility. It is certainly an energy boost away from city life.

For the attention of our guests, the property has two employees who tend to the kitchen and also clean. Both have experience in local hotels. Typical menus are their specialty. One of the employees (7 am – 5 pm) sleeps in the property. They start activities at 7 am am to clean and organize exteriors, and start on breakfast preparations at an additional external kitchen. Guests determine when they have access to the rest of the house for cleaning.

There are also nearby options to dine out. The “Camelias Real”, at the Hotel Las Camelias has a varied high-quality menu (2 kms away). A bit further out, close to the Armenia Airport, are Rancho Eden with local fare, and Bianca for an Italian menu. Both are 20 mins by car from the property. There are also options for local supermarkets. Supermercado Cocora, in the nearby Pueblo Tapao, is OK for essentials. The Laureles Supermarket, 20 mins by car, is more complete and also has a food court.
